TWISTY HISTORY
WINDOWS INSTALL:
To run in windows you must run the Windows install. Start Windows
and select "RUN" from the Program Manager. Run B:\setup. The
Windows install will copy over all the files needed to run the
game in Windows. To run the DOS version you will need to run the
DOS install.
DOS INSTALL:
To run the DOS install insert Disk 1, go to that drive (if b: by typing
"B:" <ENTER>) and then type "install" <ENTER>. The install will
configure the game for your machine and copy over all the files needed
to run the game in DOS. To run the game in Windows you will have to
run the Windows install (See above).
WINDOWS SOUND:
The Windows install will ask you if you want to install for BASE
or EXTENDED level sound.
BASE level sound runs on channels 13 thru 16 and is used
for sound cards like SoundBlaster, ProAudio, Adlib, or
any FM Yamaha 3812 type card.
EXTENDED level sound runs on channels 1 thru 10 and is
used for cards like the LAPC-I, MT-32, SCC-1, Sound
Canvas, Turtle Beach MultiSound, or any General MIDI
device.
<<<<<<< PROBLEMS??? >>>>>>>>>
MY GAME RUNS SLOW!
In DOS, Twisty History supports the following configurations:
STANDARD INTERNAL SPEAKER W/O DAC
583680 BYTES (570K) FREE
ALL MIDI DEVICES W/O DAC
586035 BYTES (572.3K) FREE
SOUND CARDS WITH DAC
589000 BYTES (575.2K) FREE
If you're having trouble getting this much free memory consult the
Sierra Install Manual for help.
The more free memory you have the better the game will run.
REMEMBER: Twisty requires in DOS at minimum a 286 16mhz,
and in Windows a 386sx 16mhz with 2 meg of ram.
THE DIGITAL AUDIO BREAKS UP OR HAS GAPS WHEN IT PLAYS:
In DOS you can add the following line to the file "Resource.cfg":
audioSize = 8k
You can experiment with the size. Try 4k, 12k, or 16k to find the one
that works best for you. Adding this line will set that amount of memory
aside for playing the audio which will decrease available memory for the
game. If you do this you may find you have to free up more memory
to play the game. In windows you really shouldn't have this problem.
If you still have problems in DOS (or Windows), it could be that your
audio files are fragmented. Try removing the game from your hard disk,
compact the disk using a utility that both defragments and compacts
the data, and then reinstall the game.
PAS-16 USERS IN DOS:
There is a specific driver for the PAS-16 for Audio. During install
you'll need to select the ProAudio 16 driver for speech.
